What is Children's Quizzing?

Children's Quizzing is a Bible study program for children in grades 1-6. The purpose is to teach the Bible in a fun and exciting way, creating a desire and a love for studying the Bible.

What books of the Bible do Children Study?

Each year children study one of five books of the Bible-Genesis, Exodus, 1 and 2 Samuel, Matthew, and Acts.

Genesis provides the foundation. We learn that God is the Creator. It explains what sin is and how it began. It introduces God's plan to reconcile the broken relationship between God and people. It introduces major Bible characters—Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.

Exodus helps us understand God keeps His promises and works in His time to bring about His will. We learn how a group of slaves became a nation called by God. We learn about the life-style and ethics God requires of His people. We learn about the Ten Commandments, the creation of the priesthood, and the construction of the tabernacle.

1 and 2 Samuel introduces us to Samuel, Saul, and David. We discover that God's people demanded a king and suffered the results of that demand. We discover how Jerusalem became the center of Jewish religion.

Matthew brings to life God's plan of salvation. We learn about the birth of Jesus, God's Son. We discover the teachings of Jesus. We learn about Jesus' death and resurrection, and His instructions to His disciples to go and teach others.

In Acts we watch the birth of the Church as Jesus' followers share the gospel with others. We learn about the gospel being preached to the Gentiles, the beginning of missionary work, and the message of God's love transforming people.

What is the Philosophy of Children's Quizzing Competition?

In Children's Quizzing, children do not compete against each other to determine one winner. Churches do not compete against each other to determine the top church.

In Children's Quizzing, each child challenges himself or herself to reach award levels. In this approach, children quiz against a base of knowledge, not each other. The award levels are Gold All Star Award (perfect), Gold Award, Silver Award, and Bronze Award.

The multiple-choice method of competition allows every child to answer every question. This approach makes it possible for every child to score a perfect score.

Competition -- What Part Does It Play?

Does Children's Quizzing include Competition?

Competition is an optional part of the Children's Quizzing program. Each church and each child decide if they want to participate in a series of competition events.

INVITATIONALS: Competition begins with practice quizzes to prepare for official competition. Invitationals occur when one or more churches organize, plan, prepare questions for the practice, and invite other churches to participate.

The ZONE/AREA Competition: This is the first official level of competition. Any child from churches within the designated zone/area may participate in this competition.

The DISTRICT Competition: This is the second official level of competition. Children who reach the designated score level at the zone/area competition may attend and participate in the district competition.

The REGIONAL Competition: This is a non-official competition between two or more districts/states. The participating district directors finalize the date, location, and questions. Regional Competitions are to be held in accordance with the "Children's Quizzing Officials Competition Rules and Procedures."

WORLD Competition: This is the highest level of official competition. A World Competition is held every four years. Children who reach a designated qualifying score at the District competition qualify to participate in the World Quiz. World Quizz 2005 will be held in Indianapolis, IN during General Assembly.

In Children's Quizzing, children do not compete against each other to determine one winner. Churches do not compete against each other to determine the top church.

**At this time, additional unofficial competitions such as State and Regional competitions are held when organized and planned by participants from those locations.**

Do All Children of All Ages Participate Together?

There are two levels of competition.

The RED LEVEL is for beginning quizzers and children who need or desire a simple competition. Competition questions come directly from the book.

The BLUE LEVEL is for advanced quizzers and children who need or desire an advanced form of competition. Some competition questions are new and require a higher level of thought processing.

Levels are not defined by or limited to certain grades.

May Other Denominations Participate?

Yes. Churches from any denomination may participate in both official and unofficial competitions.

Learning Zones
A Fun-Filled Bible Study Approach For Children

If you have a weekly Bible Study for your quizzing students, you may consider teaching them the material using the Learning Zones presented in the books.

What Are Learning Zones?

These are activity times that "zone in" or focus on an area of learning. Each weekly Bible study is divided into these learning zones:

Wonder Zone - As children enter the classroom, they participate in a hands-on activity that introduces them to one of the concepts in the Bible study.

Power Zone - The children discover the power of God's Word as they read, answer questions, and discuss the Bible verses in the study.

Challenge Zone - Children review and learn Bible facts. Teachers may choose pupil book activity pages, a multiple-choice quiz competition, or a jump-seat challenge quiz–children use teen jump seats to jump up and answer the questions.

Surprise Zone - Children use Bible facts as they participate in active  games.
